Peter Ho Takes Spotlight At Taipa

Peter Ho was the star of Saturday's twilight sand program at Taipa in Macau, kicking home a winning treble from his three rides on the day.

Ho who has long been recognized as one of the best Chinese jockeys in Asia, was in superb form.

He kicked his day off with a win on the short priced Golden Conqueror in the Class 5 & 6 over 1050 metres. 

Australian bred Golden Conqueror, by Rothesay, was sent out even money favorite in light of two good barrier trials and justified the short odds in leading throughout.

Ho then gave the Tony Fung prepared Mujaan the run of the race in the Class 2 over 1510 metres before zipping down the outside for a strong win over Ashkari (Shogo Nakano), with Ojala (J B Hamel) in third.

Mujaan has been a handy buy for the Happy Together Syndicate. Saturday's victory was win number three in Macau with six placings from his 16 runs with over $800,000 HKD in prize money. 

One of the gelding's placings was in the G3 Sand Mile when he was greatly disadvantages at the weights but ran a mighty race in finishing third behind the Class 1 horses. 

The former Darren Weir prepared galloper had only three runs in Victoria under the same name placing at Geelong, Ballarat and Donald all on turf but has shown a liking for the Macau sand track.

Peter Ho rounded out his day with another perfect ride on the Ricky Choi  trained Golden Rose to win the Class 2 & 3 over 1050 metres. 

Golden Rose powered over the top of the $1.8 favorite Loxwood (Ruan Maia) in the straight with Galaxy Giant (Stephane Ladjadj in third.

The win by Golden Rose was the first leg of a double for Ricky Choi who picked up the last with Star Of Yiu Sun who scored under Ruan Maia in the Class 5 & 6 over 1050 metres.

RickyChoi is in his first season as trainer kicked off with a handful of runners in his yard and only saddled up his first runner back in October.

He has now prepared a total of six winners and 13 placed runners from 59 starters to date.

His stable numbers are steadily climbing with 15 at last count and some more expected on the next shipment.
