Golden Conqueror Shines In Trophy

3 minute read

Macau’s boom three year old Golden Conqueror made it four wins from as many starts when he once again annihilated his rivals in Saturday’s Korea Racing Authority Goodwill Trophy, over 1050 metres on the all weather track.

Ridden by Roger Yu, the precocious youngster began only fairly before quickly scooting through on the inside to lead under a firm hold in the run. Once heads were turned for home Yu allowed the gelding a bit more rein and he quickly accelerated away with a five length margin at the two hundred. Yu had plenty of time for a prolonged look back at his opposition and Golden Conqueror  went down to the wire being eased down to win by two lengths from Electroplate Alloy (J B Hamel), with Fortune Fast (Fausto Henrique) in third.

Prepared by the combined stable of Tommy Tse and Louis Ho, Golden Conqueror is another success story for the Golden Pistols Racing Syndicate, with the 2011 Macau Gold Cup winner Golden Gunner the best of a steady flow of winners over the years.

A product of the 2018 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale Golden Conqueror was purchased for A $55,000 by Tommy Tse after he picked the colt out off his breeze up video. He is by the 2010 Queensland Guineas winner Rothesay from the Snitzel mare Viennese Beauty.

"I liked the way he moved in the video and I thought he went like a horse that should handle the sand as well. " Tse said.

So far all of Golden Conquerors four runs have been confined to the sand surface, however an eye catching third in a turf barrier trial on September 22nd alongside much higher rated horses left no doubt as to his versatility.

"I gave him two runs last season as a two year old then a long spell and now he has had two this season I'll give him a break again. There is no rush with him." Tse added.

Saturday's all weather raceday played host to many visiting delegates from overseas with the MJC paying homage to them with their annual Trophy Raceday with four feature races.

The second highlight of the day was The Jockey Club Of Turkey Goodwill Cup over 1350 metres that was taken out in brilliant fashion by the Tony Fung trained Hostwin Meraki ridden by Fausto Henrique.

Hostwin Meraki  is proving to be a real star of the sand with Saturday's win number six in Macau, with four of his victories at 1510 metres and two at 1350.

The former Gary Moore trained galloper who won a maiden at Hawkesbury and a Class 1 at Newcastle in Australia was an instant success in Macau on the sand winning at his debut back over 1350 metres in December of last year.

Second in the race was Derby winner Sacred Capital (Peter Ho) who was powering home late from the back to produce a great top off run for his next assignment the Group 3 January Cup over 1800 metres at Happy Valley on January 8.

The Moon's Back scored his second win on the all weather surface with a solid effort under Fausto Henrique to give a him a double for the day in taking out the Singapore Turf Club Goodwill Cup over 1350 metres.

Prepared by Rambo Tse, The Moon's Back  was a big priced winner on the sand back in May over 1050 metres at odds of $760.00.

The seven year old has been very lightly raced on the sand which is surprising given his great dirt pedigree. He is by Hussonet (USA), from the Summer Squall (USA) mare Kuri Bay, giving him impeccable sand credentials on both sides of his breeding with his mother indeed a granddaughter of the great Secretariat (USA)

Alan Tam's Premier Choice bounced back to form with a runaway win in the last of the day's features The Selangor Turf Club Goodwill Cup over 1350 metres.

Ridden by Roger Yu the win continued the great run of success by the trainer / jockey combination and took Roger Yu to a three win lead in the rider's standings over Ruan Maia. Yu on 16 victories leads both Maia and Fausto Henrique who are both on 13 wins.
