The G2 Grand Prix d'Amerique Races Qualif 1 Prix de Bretagne (2700m) takes place this Sunday. It is the biggest event so far of the Vincennes winter meeting of 2021-2022 and is the first of the "B" qualifying races ahead of the three classics later in the season. The first three home will gain qualification for all three Group One classics – Grand Prix d'Amérique, Grand Prix de France and Grand Prix de Paris.

The Prix de Bretagne (Prize of Brittany) is an international Group Two for horses from four to nine years old, excluding geldings, having won at least €160,000.

International success is rare with no other countries apart from France winning this "B" race since 1974. This year however, Zacon Gio, is an ex-Italian trained horse who may make his French debut now having joined the Jean-Michel Bazire stable.

Diable de Vauvert will be looking to maintain his crown after victory twelve months ago when beating Feliciano and Bahia Quesnot.

Despite Face Time Bourbon being a two-time winner of the G1 Grand Prix d'Amerique (2700m), he is yet to win this "B" race and could be the star of the show once more. Interestingly the record of this "B" event at providing the winner of the biggest race (The G1 Grand Prix d'Amérique) is not strong. It has been ten years since the double was completed when Ready Cash won both events in 2011 and 2012.

Placegetters in the big race in January enhance the record of this qualifier with multiple performers making the frame or running well in the G1 Grand Prix d'Amérique including Davidson du Pont (2019 winner of this, second in the 2020 Grand Prix d'Amérique/2018 winner was fourth in January), Akim du Cap Vert (2015 winner was fourth in the January Group One).

The Prix de Bretagne is a key preparation especially for placegetters or those running well toward the January Classic. It will worth remembering the outcome of this opening qualifier.

* - Please note with these participants the international form lines may not be fully updated and accurate.

(C) – Horses with this symbol, means the career best Kilometre rating was achieved at the track (Vincennes).
