Statistic Of The Week of French Trotting News - 11th March 2021.

This week's statistic looks at the correlation between the G1 Grand Prix de France (2100m) and the G1 Grand Critérium de Vitesse de la Côte d'Azur (1609m) at Cagnes Sur Mer.

The Vincennes Winter Meeting drew to a close last weekend with the final Group One fixture taking place last Saturday. Appropriately, the star of the meeting Face Time Bourbon saluted the judge and made the race a one-act affair. This Sunday, the Group One action heads to the south with the running of the Grand Critérium de Vitesse de la Côte d'Azur (1609m), the only Group One race conducted at the track.

The G1 Grand Prix de France (2100m) has proven a good guide to this race with four horses achieving the double over the past twenty-years with one (Meaulnes du Corta) on two occasions in 2009 and 2010. It should also be noted that Timoko finished second in the 2016 and 2017 editions of the Grand Prix de France, then progressed to win this Cagnes-sur-Mer feature. He won the race four times. Bold Eagle finished also finished second in the 2100m sprint event at Vincennes prior to going one place better at Cagnes-sur-Mer in 2018.

The entry of this year's G1 Grand Prix de France (2100m) winner Delia Du Pommereux therefore looks significant.

The barrier position of gate five over 'mile' journey of 1609m at Cagnes-sur-Mer has an interesting 19.5%-win strike-rate and yields an impressive 38.1% placed figure. With a general emphasis of winners coming from the low to middle starting positions, this can provide a key-angle into Sunday's feature race.

Other entries that also ran in the Grand Prix de France include third placegetter Aetos Kronos and fourth Bahia Quesnot.

*Please note this data excluded International results.

It is worth observing that the last four winners have produced a reduction kilometre rating of sub-1'10"0.

*Horses highlighted in blue also won the G1 Grand Prix de France (2100m) in the same season.
