Prix de Chelles - Race 1 – Vincennes – Saturday 17 April – Driven (Three-year-old colts only)

Inferno Piper (Christophe Martens/Vincent Martens)

Inferno Piper enhanced his record last Saturday at Vincennes with a dominating yet narrow victory for driver Christophe Martens and trainer Vincent Martens.

The three-year-old son of Coup de Poker (the sire was runner up in the 2016, G1 Critérium des 4 ans over 2850m) has shown ability in all five career outings to date. He made a winning debut last November at La Capelle before following up in two autostarts at Cagnes-sur-Mer in February and then a month later at Enghien to remain unbeaten in three starts.

Vincent Martens took this promising three-year-old up to Group three level on just his fourth career run contesting the G3 Prix de Saintes (2100m).  one week previous to this victory whereas favourite was disqualified early.

Again, the market supported the Christophe Martens driven contender last Saturday and it was justified when able to bounce back to the winner's enclosure in style taking up the pace setting duties with a circuit to go. He travelled powerfully throughout and controlled the field down the back straight. As they turned for home the pack were closing but Inferno Piper showed a good attitude to fend off the closing Ibra Meslois.

Inferno Piper recorded a kilometre rating of a 1'15"6 in this class B driven contest. He is open to further improvement especially with different shoeing combinations and different competition including in higher grades and looks one to note now with four triumphs in five starts.
