Incarville came out on top in a thrilling three-way finish of the G1 Prix Saint-Alary (2000m) under a power packed Christophe Soumillon. The David Smaga-trained filly appeared relaxed towards the rear of the field, though alarm bells might have been ringing for connections as the eventual second, Cirona kicked clear from the front off a steady gallop. The daughter of Wootton Bassett was made to pull out all the stops as she ran on powerfully down the outside to join Cirona and Es La Vida, to then win by a head.

Connections endured a lengthy stewards' inquiry for an earlier incident before any celebrations could begin.

The sectionals suggest it would be harsh not to upgrade the performance. Julien Auge was allowed to set his own steady fractions out in front, making it tough for horses towards the rear of the field to make up ground in the very soft conditions. This makes it even more impressive that Incarville came out on top.

The group one success marked a fourth individual winner at the highest level for Coolmore's Wootton Bassett, who will move to Australia for the first time later this year. Part of the Lagardère family, Incarville is one of four winners from as many runners out of Ilhabela, a half-sister to dual Group 1 Classic winner Vahorimix

Wootton Bassett is currently based at Coolmore in Ireland and will stand for $71,500 in his first southern hemisphere season. Incarville holds entries in the G1 Prix de Diane (2100m) and the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m).
