The G2 Grand Prix de Deauville (2500m) boasts a long history and was originally established as the Coupe de Deauville in August 1866. In it's inaugural year, the race had a prize fund of almost 30,000 francs - an enormous sum of money for the time period. We look at this year's contenders..

Sublimis

The Godolphin owned Sublimis has been in good order over the last few months and will be looking to break through at Group level. He finished third in the G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil (2800m) at Longchamp on his last start and 2500m is expected to suit him.

Glycon

Glycon seemed to appreciate the considerable step up in distance to 2500m when winning G3 Prix de Reux (2500m) at Deauville at the start of August. This is the traditional trial race. It was his first attempt over the trip and connections seemed to have found the key to him now.

Styledargent

Styledargent makes seasonal reappearance after a break since last August. His best performance in 2020 came when winning the Listed Grand Prix de Lyon (2400m) where he beat the re-opposing Sublimis. Might need the first run back but does have the ability to feature in the closing stages.

The Good Man

The Good Man successfully made the step up in class from top-flight handicap company to Listed level when placing second behind In Swoop in the G3 Prix d'Hedouville (2400m). He was fifth in the competitive G3 Prix de Reux (2500m) behind Glycon subsequently and may need to improve to reverse the form.

Sea of Sands

Sea of Sands remains lightly raced with only six career starts but he showed potential when winning the Derby Trial (2000m) at Berlin-Hoppegartan in May before a disappointing run in the G1 Deutsche Derby (2400m) subsequently. He could be open to further improvement.
