Face Time Bourbon, the Grand Prix U.E.T, Min and Ribchester all feature in this week's News In Brief...

Ribchester

It was a thirteenth individual success for Ribchester when Cryptoqueen won over 1400m at Moulins last week. Having the fourth start of her career, the filly stayed on well to post a three-quarter length victory over Stronger Together. The filly was purchased by trainer Gavin Hernon for 17,000gns at Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale last year. Ribchester shuttled to Darley's Kelvinside for two seasons, before relocating to Haunui Farm in New Zealand, filling the void left by his sire Iffraaj.

Dubawi

French raider Maria Amalia became the 216th individual stakes winner for her sire Dubawi when winning the Listed Schloss Roland-Stutenpreis (1400m) at Dusseldorf last Sunday. Maria Amalia was sent off as favourite and beat the Markus Klug-trained pair, Marlar and Diadora. Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket (UK) where his fee this year was £250,000.

Arqana Arc Sale

Penja

The Jean Claude Rouget-trained filly Penja topped last Saturday's Arqana Arc Sale when bought for €1.2 million by Blandford Bloodstock. The daughter of Camelot held an entry in the G1 Prix de l'Opera (1800m) last Sunday but was declared a non-runner. She has won three times including the G3 Prix de Psyche (2000m) and finished runner-up in the G2 Prix de la Nonette (2000m) at Deauville in August. 

Saiydabad

Second most expensive lot of the day was Saiydabad who was purchased by Narvick International for €575,000.  The Aga Khan offering had finished seventh earlier in the day in the G1 Prix Dollar (2000m) at Longchamp. This daughter of Blame had previously won the G3 Prix du Prince d'Orange (2000m) at the same track.

Summary

Nineteen lots changed hands for a total of €4,975,000. The average of €261,842 was slightly down on the 2020 sum of €277,273.

Face Time Bourbon

The top-class trotter Face Time Bourbon ended his Italian drought winning the G1 Gran Premio Lotteria Finale (1600m) at Naples last Sunday. This was much to the delight of his owner Antonio Somma who had always dreamed of winning the top Italian prize. The son of the great Ready Cash won the race in a record-breaking time of 1'10''2.

Grand Prix U.E.T

Next Saturday Aby racecourse will play host to the final of the Grand Prix U.E.T. Entries were published last Sunday at midday and amongst them were a Philippe Allaire-trained pair including Ivensong who arrives following a success in the G2 Prix Uranie (2175m) at Vincennes. The race will be run from behind the mobile over 2140m.

Thierry Duvaldestin

Thierry Duvaldestin crossed the milestone of 3,000 victories as a trainer in France this weekend, entering an exclusive club. At just fifty years old he offers some brilliant training statistics, including a remarkable thirty-five Group Ones.

Gladys des Plaines

Following his brilliant victory in the G1 Etrier 5 ans Finale - Prix de Normandie (3000m) in record time (1'12''3) on September 19th Gladys des Plaines is taking a break with Alexandre Chevrier.

Min

Trainer Willie Mullins announced last Monday evening that following the retirement of stable star Min, he would return to his French breeders Marie Thérèse and Gérard Mimouni, at the Chantemerle stud farm and spend his retirement there.
