In what looked an exceptional renewal on paper, the G1 Criterium Des 3 Ans (2700m) did not disappoint as Idylle Speed prevailed in a thrilling finish.
The field was led for a long way by eventual runner-up Izoard Védaquais as he and Eric Raffin picked up the running just before the halfway stage. The pair fought off a host of challengers up the straight before succumbing to the late charge by Idyllee Speed under a strong Jean-Michel Bazire.
The time was remarkable: 1'12''2 for a three-year-old filly in shoes which meant a new race record beating that of Timoko's in 2010 by four tenths of a second. It was a sixth career victory from ten starts for the daughter of Carat Williams whilst a first at Group One level for trainer François-Pierre Bossuet, who was narrowly denied in the race last year with Havanaise.
Idyllee Speed was bred by Michel Triguel and purchased for a fee of €25,000 from the d'Osarus Trot sale.
