The G1 Prix des Elites (2175m) is the feature race this weekend run at Vincennes on Sunday. This mounted contest is, for the first time, restricted to four-year-olds having previously been open to three, four-and five-year-olds. We preview the event.

The Prix des Élites was first run in 1943. Whilst initially held as part of the Winter Meeting, for many years it has been run in early autumn and complemented the Prix des Étoile held at the end of the Winter Meeting in March. The uniqueness of these two races was a race open to 3-4-&-5-year-olds with the younger generation receiving a 50m start against older rivals over the short-course at Vincennes of 2200m. Progressive three-years-olds dominated the race for ten successive years, however older horses won the past five renewals.

Times move on and with the revamp of race programming this year, the Prix des Élites has undergone a dramatic change with the race being now restricted exclusively to four-year-olds under mounted conditions. The distance remains 2200m.

Five horses are genuine chances in this years' renewal, four having won a monte G1. This is a very even generation of monte horses. Our stats guide provides the reasons why a horse may or may not be victorious.
