Welcome in the new racing season on 1 September at Sha Tin Racecourse

The Season Opening race meeting will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 1 September.

To usher in the new season, a mega prize totalling HK$28 million will be on offer to mark the season opener. Spectacular on-course activities, games with prizes and a new range of merchandise will also be on offer. Each racegoer will receive a free 2019/20 Racing Calendar* as a door gift upon admission  

$28 million mega prize to mark season opening

To mark the start of the new racing season at Sha Tin Racecourse on 1 September, the Triple Trio and the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool will be topped up with jackpots.  Together with the Six Win Bonus, which carries a jackpot as well, the first race meeting will offer a chance to win a mega prize of $28 million dollars.

With the Triple Trio topped up with a jackpot of $13.5 million, the dividend for a single $10 winning unit is estimated to reach $20 million. The Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool will also be topped up with a $3 million jackpot, which will be allocated to Races 6, 8 and 10, with each race carrying a jackpot of $1 million. In addition, the Six Win Bonus will also carry a jackpot of $1.9 million and the dividend could reach $5 million should there be only one single $10 winning unit. 

A spectacular line-up of on-course events

The opening ceremony will take place in the Parade Ring at 12:00 noon. It will start with the traditional eye-dotting of the ceremonial lions, followed by the gong-striking ceremony performed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Chairman, Dr. Anthony Chow. All jockeys will also be in attendance to wish fans the very best for the coming season. Dr. Chow will later present the trophy to the winning connections of the HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup.

Bang the Lucky gongs

Lucky gongs to represent well wishes for the new season will be set up at Sha Tin Racecourse. Fans are welcome to strike the lucky gongs for an auspicious start to the new season.

Snap Instagram moments at Hay Market and Jump to win

Customers of Hay Market and Jump can upload their photos of the Season Opening to Instagram with a supportive message for their favourite jockey, using the hashtag #GoRacinghk for a chance to take home a fabulous prize. The top 30 nominated for the most creative message will receive a free bottle of craft beer.

Gourmet dishes for a new start

A variety of dishes will be available at Mezza One, the gourmet food plaza at Sha Tin Racecourse.

Sha Tin Racecourse will be open for admission at 11:00am on Sunday, 1 September for a 10-race card, with the first race starting at 1:00pm. Happy Valley will also open at 11:00am.

Free Shuttle Bus to Happy Valley Racecourse

On the day, racegoers wishing to watch the exciting races via the big screen at Happy Valley Racecourse can take advantage of a free shuttle bus service to Happy Valley from Kowloon Tong MTR station, departing every 15 minutes between 10:30am and 12:45pm #. Buses will board from Exit D, Kowloon Tong MTR station.

Over 300 comfortable seats with free Wi-Fi will be available at the Happy Valley Racecourse. Seats for the free shuttle buses and those at the racecourse will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
