"It is very sad, very unusual accident," said shattered trainer Frankie Lor Fu-chuen reported scmp.com.

"This morning Extra Brut  was involved in an accident during training," said a HKJC spokeman.

"Although this particular accident is a very rare occurance, the Club takes it seriously and will carry out a full investigation in accordance with established procedures," he said.

Extra Brut won the Victoria Derby over 2500m and then backed up a week later to run third in the 2018 Group 1 Mackinnion Stakes over 2000m when trained by the now disqualified Darren Weir. After two unsuccessful runs in the late summer of 2019 when trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace he was sent to Hong Kong and Frankie Lor's stable with the intention of a campaign towards the BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) on March 22nd, 2020.

He opened his Hong Kong racing with an encouraging third to Fast Most Furious over 1600m in the Class 1 Chevalier Cup at Sha Tin on November 23rd.
