Korea: Shamrocker Returns In Stiff Seoul Sunday Test

3 minute read

Shamrocker spent the Spring chasing home Cheongdam Dokki and Clean Up Joy and after a summer of injury finally returns to action in Seoul’s Sunday feature race, a tough 1800M test featuring some real up and comers.

3rd in both the Herald Business and YTN Cups, SHAMROCKER remains the 7th highest rated horse running at Seoul. The five-year-old US bred, who is by Dublin, offered few clues when re-qualifying in a trial last Friday but looked in good physical condition and is certainly good enough to win if he can show anything like his older form. However, he’s giving weight away and he’s going to have his work cut out in a very competitive race.

ROAD WINNER, a three-year-old American import by Discreet Cat, looks a talent in the making. He’s only raced six times before but is already seasoned at the distance with back to back victories and was a three-length winner of the JRA Trophy on international weekend last month. As this is a handicap, Shamrocker’s presence means he is significantly down in weight and he could be hard to beat under Brazilian jockey Antonio Da Silva.

SKY BAY looks hugely talented as well with four wins from seven outings. The Adios Charlie filly is though up in class and out in trip and steps somewhat into the unknown here. WINNER GOLD also steps up to race around two-turns for the first time – he’s won six of ten at shorter distances. Three out of the twelve have “winner” in their name and WINNER’S GLORY is another who could play a role, having run second – albeit a very distant second – to Dolkong last time out in August.

The feature is race 10 with a post time of 17:30 local Seoul time. There are 11 races on Sunday from 10:45 to 18:00.
