Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Picture: Korea Racing Authority

As is almost always the case right now, juvenile maidens kick things off and this time four of the nine race for the very first time. One of the experienced ones will be the hot favourite though. That's (3) TOUGH GUY, who after posting a good time in a trial in August, debuted on September 12th when he put in a front-running effort at today's trip to ultimately finish 3rd in a good time. He draws well here and should have too much. Running better on debut that his finishing position suggests was (4) AMAZON KING. Ran 6th but in a fast time in a good race. That came off an impressive trial and is the main danger to the favourite here. (8) CHAMJOEUN CHINGU was slowly away from a wide gate on her debut but did make ground late and finished in a decent time in a fats race and she too will be expected to improve here. Among the first-timers, (7) EUNHYE was the fastest in trials and perhaps has the best chance of making an impression first-up. (2) SUNNY BLADE too did nothing wrong in her heat.

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

Fillies only here. (5) FLYING FULL MOON has been knocking on the door in his latest three outings including 3rd place last start on September 19th at this distance with a couple of today's rivals behind him. A front runner, he draws nicely so expect him to be on pace and he can lead gate to wire. (1) VIENTO came home 4th behind Flying Full Moon in that race on what was her fourth career start. She looks like she is figuring things out and from another very good draw she could make further progress today. (4) EOMCHEONGNAN GIRL put in a significantly improved 2nd at this distance on August 15th in a fair time behind a good winner. She had already shown she can finish off her races well but for the first time raced prominently throughout and a similar run should see her in the finish again. (7) SEMYEONG HAETSAL is the only previous winner in the field and as such comes into the calculations after three consecutive 4th place finishes. (11) SISEON JUMA has made an encouraging start to her career with three top five finishes from three starts. She led in her best finish to date when 2nd but has run well from behind as well and steps up to 1300M for the first time with solid claims to continue her development.

Selections (5) Flying Full Moon (1) Viento (4) Eomcheongnan Girl (7) Semyeong Haetsal

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

Unchartered territory for all of these maidens as none of them have tackled two-turns before. A few have hinted at ability and finished off their races well at shorter distances, including (5) FLYING BARBIE. She comes on off a decent 3rd place at 1300M, her best performance to date, when she came from well off the pace run down plenty. The extended trip may be what she needs. That's true too for (4) SEMYEONG CAPTAIN. He ran fairly for 3rd over 1400M at his latest start on August 22nd when he overcame a wide gate to do his best work late. He should be in the finish here. (1) TAEYANGTAGO was 4th in that race behind Semyeong Captain in August and followed it up with another 4th place a month ago, also at 1400M when she made ground from last place entering the straight. She too may like the additional trip. (6) SEONBONG GOLD and (3) HELLO GEUMSEONG are others to consider.

Selections (5) Flying Barbie (4) Semyeong Captain (1) Taeyangtago (6) Seonbong Gold

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

A small field of juvenile maidens get things underway in Busan and (3) YEONGCHEON SOLEMIO is set to be a warm favourite. He made a bold showing on debut when overcoming gate eleven to lead before being ground down and ultimately finishing 4th in a fast time. He draws better today, should lead and should win (5) FUNNY LIFE registered a faster time than Yeongcheon Solemio when also 4th on her own debut on September 17th although it was on a much wetter and faster track. She too was on pace and looks to be the primary danger here. There are two first-timer starters and both warrant mentions. (8) RAON THE GUTSEN went through two trials, improving in the second of them, crossing the line 3rd in a decent time. He can sit outside the early speed and run-on. (2) LIGHT STORY clearly knows what to do having won his own trial. He draws well and can go well first-up. Returning to those with experience, (6) YOUNG BOSS looks to have the most potential to improve.

Selections (3) Yeongcheon Solemio (5) Funny Life (8) Raon The Gutsen (2) Light Story

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

We'll go with (6) THE QUEEN JUSTICE here on the grounds that she has the fastest time of any of these at the distance (albeit recorded on a very wet track) and draws a much better gate than her primary rival. She comes in off a decent 2nd place at class and distance on September 11th when she went back and made ground and from the middle can perhaps pick her spot. That main rival is likely to be (12) JEONGMUN JIJON, who comes up in class after a good win on September 12th when she sat handy to the lead, striking the front in the home straight and running on well. This might be trickier from the wide draw, but she still looks nicely in and should measure up at this level. (4) GO GO STAR led at her latest start at class and distance ultimately finishing in 5th place. She draws nicely to lead again and can be challenging for a money finish. (10) JANGSAN GUARD had a poor day at the office in that race, his first at this class, but is better than that and can be given another chance. (1) YULONG STAR another in the frame.

Selections (6) The Queen Justice (12) Jeongmun Jijon (4) Go Go Star (10) Jangsan Guard

Busan Race 2: Class 6 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

Very tricky race. (11) GIANT CAL steps up to this distance for the first time and it may well suit. He doesn't run on pace so the wide draw shouldn't be a problem and last time he emerged from the back to run 3rd in a solid time over 1300M. Today could be his day. (8) TRIPLE STORM comes back in trip after a couple of spins around a mile. He ran well at class and distance three starts back when 3rd in a time faster than any of the others here have recorded at the distance and he has to be considered a leading contender. (3) DAEHOMA has raced eight times, finishing no better than 4th although that is something he has managed on each of his latest four starts. He draws well to get on pace again and has claims here. (10) OLD CHEONHA hinted at ability in two starts in the early part of the year. He hasn't been seen since April but trialed up adequately last month and a nice race has been picked for his return. (4) RAPIDO QUEEN another who should be competing for at least a place.

Selections (11) Giant Cal (8) Triple Storm (3) Daehoma (10) Old Cheonha

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Competitive race. (8) K N LIGHT has finished no worse 5th in six starts to date and comes up in class following a runner-up finish at this distance on August 29th when handy to the lead throughout and briefly leading in the closing stages. The time was good when compared with his rivals here and he should be competitive at this level. (10) CHALLAN HANNAL got preomotd to this class following a win two starts back over 1200M when he flew home from the back of the field. He stepped up to 1300M for his first try at this level on August 29th and almost managed to repeat the trick, ultimately settling for 2nd in a fast race. The slightly extended trip should suit, the draw should be no issue at all, and he will be competitive here. A wide draw shouldn't be too much of a problem for (12) SECRET BOSS either. He ran 3rd in that race behind Challan Hannal at the end of August and has since repeated the finish, again at 1300M. Expect him to be challenging late here. (9) CHEONGSAN GASE and (2) JOY OF KING are others who can be in the placing frame.

Busan Race 3: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Fillies only here. (11) SAGARMATHA is a winner of three from six so far and comes up in class following a battling score at this distance at her latest start. There are a few things for her to overcome here. She races for the first time since July, she draws wide, and she takes to much deeper waters today – the times she has run so far would not win this. She comes down significantly in the weights and looks to have potential for improvement though so we will take a chance. Probable favourite is (1) BURNING FLY. She's only won two of her fifteen starts but is ultra-consistent in finishing in the money and in the times she runs. Tactically versatile, an apprentice keeps the weight down and she has every chance from the inside gate. (2) HAPPY WITCH also knows how to run a time at this level. She has got caught a bit too far back in her latest two but is worth at least another chance to place today. (4) GREAT GOOD and the up in class (9) MASTER QUEEN are others who can be competitive.

Selections (11) Sagarmatha (1) Burning Fly (2) Happy Witch (4) Great Good

Seoul Race 6: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

We'll take a chance on (8) LUCKY WORLD who comes up in class but down in weight off a good win at this distance on August 28th when he was drawn widest but settled just behind the leaders and then ran on strongly to win in a fast time. He has a better gate and could pull off another win. The favourite will be (1) TOUGH MAN. He has three wins, and three runner-up finishes so far and while he comes up in the weights here, that disadvantage is countered by having drawn the inside gate, which may allow him a soft lead. If he gets to the front, he may prove very difficult to get past. (4) PARK WIN is another up in class and down in weight. In his case it follows an easy score over 1300M at class 5 level when he sat handy to the lead and ran on very comfortably. He can't be ruled out from a good barrier. (3) ONE AND ONLY comes into contention following two consecutive class 5 wins at 1300M and 1400M, both in good times. She is up in class but well down in weight with an apprentice jockey aboard and a nice draw making her worthy of thought. The wildcard is (9) KING ACE, who returns to action for the first time since January. He has run good times at the distance and won a trial two weeks ago.

Selections (8) Lucky World (1) Tough Man (4) Park Win (3) One And Only

Busan Race 4: Class 4 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

A really good race for the level. (1) SKY MORE won at this class over a mile on September 12th to make it three wins from his last four. He comes up 2kg in the weights as a result and tackles 1800M for the first time, but he still seems to be progressive enough that he can cope with both. He likes to race handy or just behind the leaders and is well drawn to do exactly that. He gives 3kg to (6) ADELE PUPIL, who took a shy at the class 3 stumps on October 3rd and ran a very good 2nd to Success Macho at this distance in a fast time. That was a second very good showing at this distance, and he has solid claims here. (9) FASHION BLADE comes up in class having registered three wins from six and has been fast over 1400M. This is her first time at further than a mile, but she can measure up. So can (8) WORLD CHANGE, who is rapidly up in class following back-to-back victories at 1400M and a mile. He ran on pleasingly in a good time over a mile last time and the extra furlong should be no problem. (10) SEUNGNI TOUT among others in a t least the placing frame.

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Two standouts here. (6) QUICKSILVER KITTEN is an improving horse, who has finished no worse than 4th in four starts so far. She got her maiden win on September 18th when she settled handy to the leaders and ran on to win easily at this distance. She comes up significantly in the weights and has no apprentice claim this time but has every chance of following up. (10) MIGHTY GEE has shown best at 1400M so far with three of his four starts coming at that distance and resulting in a win and two runner-up finishes, all in great times. From gate ten he can be looking to settle handy to the leaders and then run on. (12) MJ POINT isn't helped by the barrier but could easily place here. He has finished 4th on both his latest two starts including at this distance last time. There are three first-time starters and all look to have a chance first-up. (9) ALEXANDER ONE has trialed up three times over the course of more than one year now and finally makes it to the track. He has run consistently good times in his trials and should go well. Similarly (4) GWANGHAE was much improved in the second of his trial appearances in September and looks ready to go.

Busan Race 5: Class Open "The Luna Stakes" (KOR-L) 1600M Allowance / KRW 250 Million

The first leg of the filly Triple Crown sees eight fillies travel down from Seoul to face eight from the host track of Busan. The visitors are well-represented with (3) RAON PINK set to be favourite and for good reason. A winner of five from seven, she made all over 1400M at class 3 level at her last start, overcoming gate twelve in the process. She has consistently run fast times, draws beautifully and if she can get a lead, she may be very difficult to get past. (4) ACHIM GISANG is another Seoul visitor, who has won four from five with her only defeat coming on her sole try at 1400M when she was racing for the first time in six months. She was a super all the way winner over 1300M in a fast time at level 5 at the end of August. The trip will be a question at this stage, but she draws well and is another looking to lead. (1) MISS INDIE looks to be the host track's top contender. She is one of only two in the field to have tackled a mile already when she ran 2nd just two weeks ago at class 4 level when she was admittedly well-beaten by a very good winner. That experience may prove beneficial and as she likes to be on pace, she is well-drawn. (15) B J MISS is the second highest rated filly in the race at this stage and while it is true that all her starts so far have been at 1200M, where she has been running fast and improving times, this is the type of race where she is by no means alone in that. The draw is perhaps a bigger concern but if she can overcome it, then she can go close. Loads of others are in the hunt with (7) SEUNGNI MAGICQUEEN perhaps the best of them.

Selections (3) Raon Pink (4) Achim Gisang (1) Miss Indie (15) B J Miss

Seoul Race 8: Class 3 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million

(2) JANGSAN BADA has a good record over this trip and with the draw in his favour, has every chance to be able to pick his spot on or close to the pace. A winner of four from nine so far, the one concern is that he is resuming after six months out, however, he looked race sharp and then some when absolutely blitzing a September trial, crossing the line a full three seconds before anything else did. He has a big chance. (10) UARYUNG has raced four times this year and seems to be working towards a win. She was on pace for a close 2nd last start over 1400M at this class. She won the Korean Oaks last year, so we know the distance is no issue. (1) JEONGMUN SUMMIT comes up in class following a class 4 win over this distance on August 22nd when well back early before looping the field in the back straight to lead and then holding on. He comes down a full 4kg in the weights and can measure up at this level. (9) DAE BYEONHWA is worth thought following his last start 3rd at this class and distance and has the benefit of an apprentice claim today. He usually settles back in the field and runs on so the draw is not a concern although he may need some luck. (4) DAEGUN POWER among others in the placing frame.

Selections (2) Jangsan Bada (10) Uaryung (1) Jeongmun Summit (9) Dae Byeonhwa

Busan Race 6: Class 3 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 1400M

Very tricky conclusion at Busan. (6) MR. FUSION was a class and distance winner on September 10th beating plenty of today's rivals in the process when he settled midfield and then ran on strong for a comfortable score. He does come up 2.5kg in the weights today but he is by no means alone in that, he draws fairly, and he can repeat. (4) QUEEN OF THE WORLD was a great winner in June at class and distance before struggling when drawn wide at 1200M and then running a good 3rd in a fast time having led over a mile at her latest start at the end of August. The draw tends to be important for her and she gets a good one here. She will aim to be on pace and has claims. (1) PINEUI KKUM ran 3rd to Mr. Fusion on September 10th having made all to win at a mile the time before. With an apprentice not being engaged this time, he comes up in the weights but from the inside will surely be a factor at the business end of the race. So too (2) CHOEGANG SSONSAL. He ran 2nd to Queen Of The World at this distance in June before racing twice at 1200M, running 2nd to the smart Yeongung Louis at his latest. (7) RAON YEOGEOL comes in off two good performances at class and distance. She remains lightly weighted, and another bold showing is possible.

Selections (6) Mr. Fusion (4) Queen Of The World (1) Pineui Kkum (2) Choegang Ssonsal

Seoul Race 9: Class 1 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million

A class 1 but restricted to those rated 100 or less brings up a real clash of the up and comers. (7) CARVING CROSS is a winner of eight from eleven, his recent work has been at further, seemingly with a race such as the President's Cup in mind, but he is a front runner, and he has the kind of ability that means while he won't necessarily lead from the gate, he should be up on pace quickly and can then simply run away from the rest. He won't be tiring after 1400M, and he may not give them a chance to catch him. He vies for favourite status with (6) LEGEND DAY, who has done nothing wrong having won his last five starts including a big win in a fast time at this distance in class 2 in August. He likes to sit on pace and is nicely drawn here. It could go either way. (10) RAON FIRST is a top-quality filly who has buckets of speed. She ran 3rd to the flying Eoma Eoma on her last go at this distance two starts back. The draw isn't ideal but don't rule here out. (11) DIXIE AGAIN ran well in his first attempt at class 1 when as usual he led. That was over 1200M, but he comes back to his preferred 1400M today and looks a place chance. (4) HEUNGHAENG JILJU drops back in trip following a very good win over 2000M in August. He gives away weight here but must be considered.

Selections (7) Carving Cross (6) Legend Day (10) Raon First (11) Dixie Again
