Sargent hoping to toast with Gin Martini

John Sargent is hoping he will be toasting to a Gin Martini victory at Eagle Farm on Saturday when she contests the Gr.2 The Roses (2100m).

The daughter of Rip Van Winkle placed in the Gr.1 Australian Oaks (2400m) last month before resuming in the in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) earlier this month where she finished fourth.

"She was a bit fresh that day. She had a week off after the Oaks and I think she will improve with that run," Sargent told RacingHQ.

"Mark Du Plessis galloped her on Tuesday at Eagle Farm on the outside of the course proper and he was really happy with her, she didn't blow at all.

"She is spot on for Saturday. It is probably her go I think because if she is not going to win that then she is going to get a better field in the (Queensland) Oaks (Gr.1, 2200m).

"I think it is a nice race from the draw (2). Robbie Dolan knows her and will ride her prominently. It should suit her."

Gin Martini was purchased out of Landsdowne Park's 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale draft by Tricolours Racing & Syndications for $40,000.
