Hazel Schofer has extended her lead in the New Zealand apprentice jockey premiership after riding a treble at Otaki on Friday.

Schofer now sits on 72 wins this season, 12 clear of last year's premiership winner Kozzi Asano, who returned to raceday riding at Phar Lap Raceway on Thursday after an injury enforced layoff.

The Taranaki hoop kicked home the first three winners on the nine-race card, including a double for her employer Allan Sharrock, who now sits on 51 wins this season, his best tally to date.

Schofer began the day in perfect fashion when riding Catsacharmer to a two-length victory in the Scaff On Demand 2YO (800m) for Sharrock, before partnering stablemate Ladies Man to a six-length win in the Aquashield Roofing Maiden (1400m).

The 22-year-old completed the treble aboard Hot Shockolate in the Happy 60th Birthday Athal Muir Maiden (1200m) for New Plymouth trainer Bryce Revell.

Later on the program jockey Tony Allan sent out his first winner in a different capacity, as a trainer, when Cetus prevailed comfortably in the Harcourt Otaki Handicap (1600m).
