Taylor following proven path to Nuggets

3 minute read

Aaron Taylor will be following a tried and true approach in his bid to win Saturday’s Kumara Gold Nuggets with Electronic Motion.

The Riccarton trainer will chase the Vernon & Vazey Truck Parts-sponsored prize with his genuine six-year-old, who finished fifth when resuming at Reefton on Wednesday.

“He needed that run and had a decent blow afterwards and he’s copped it well,” Taylor said. “He back up well and he was good on the Coast last year.”

Electronic Motion won at Kumara 12 months ago after one preparatory run and subsequently held his form well to win two further races as well as a runner-up finish in the Listed Riverton Cup and a fourth placing in the Gr.3 Winter Cup.

“He did a lot in the space of 14 months so he needed a decent spell and he can’t handle the firm tracks because of a bit of arthritis in his knees,” Taylor said. “He’s a good, honest horse and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet.“

Electronic Motion has been relatively lightly-tried and is the winner of five of his 24 starts with a particularly good record on the rain-affected going with four victories and six placings from 14 appearances on slow or heavy footing.

Our Alchemist was a comfortable winner of the Greymouth Cup on a testing track last time out and he looks poised to go well again while stablemate Sonny Wellington was fifth and he has previous winning form when produced second-up.

Another North Islander whose chances have to be taken seriously is the Gr.3 Counties Cup placegetter Noble Warrior. He finished fifth in the Gold Nuggets last year.
