Beckham has high family values to live up to and the early signs from the well-related colt are that weight of expectation might not hold him back.

The Waikato Stud-bred and owned son of Pins and the dual Group One winner Glamour Puss is back in work after he made the perfect start to his career with a stylish win on his home track at Matamata in March.

“We were going to give him another run at Palmerston North, but we found he had mucus down his throat so we put him aside and we’re bringing him along for the new season,” co-trainer Peter McKay said.

“Mark (Chittick) is happy to be patient with him and he said Glamour Puss didn’t get going until she was a four-year-old.

“He took a wee while to come up last time and every time we gave him a couple of gallops he’d go shin sore.

“Hopefully, we can really train him rather than mollycoddle him this time around – he won like a good horse and he could be a serious four-year-old.

“He doesn’t handle any cut in the ground and most likely we’ll look to kick him off in the intermediate grade on one of the last two days of the Hastings carnival.”

Beckham was ridden in his debut win by Vinnie Colgan and McKay took encouragement from his jockey’s post-race comments.

“Vinnie was happy and he doesn’t usually say too much, but he was pretty positive.”

Glamour Puss has a perfect record at stud with her first foal Heritage, by Redoute’s Choice, a winner in Victoria and Beckham’s sister Hollywood has been successful three times in Australia. His half-sister Vogue, a daughter of O’Reilly, has won two of her four starts this year for trainer Peter and Dawn Williams.
