Albany Reunion can improve on an already formidable record at Ellerslie on his return next Saturday.

The five-year-old triumphed in the Gr.1 Easter Handicap earlier this year at headquarters where he has raced eight times for four wins and four placings, including a second in the Gr.3 Mr Tiz Trophy and a third in the Listed Newmarket Handicap.

Trainer Nigel Tiley now has the Gr.3 Eagle Technology Stakes, to be run at set weights and penalties, in his sights for Albany Reunion.

“He’s very bright and I don’t see any reason not to press on with him,” he said.

The five-year-old son of Fastnet Rock has an overall record of five wins and six minors from his 12 appearances and a last-start fifth from the outside barrier in the Gr.2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile at Riccarton.

“He’s come through that race really well,” Tiley said. “There were a few factors against him – the draw didn’t help much and he got left in front a long way out.

“That was the worst race of his life and he still ran fifth so it wasn’t that bad.”

Meanwhile, stablemate Cherry Vain is enjoying a break before she returns for the holiday racing period. She has gone out on a high after a straight-forward Rating 65 win at Awapuni earlier this month.

“I’ve put her in the paddock – there’s nothing else around for her and then she’ll come back for the Christmas and New Year,” Tiley said.

“I don’t want her to be taking on the older horses too much at this time of the year and there’ll be a nice race for her over the carnival.”

A juvenile debut winner and fifth in the Gr.1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes, Cherry Vain finished in the money in her first three appearances this term, including a close fourth in the Gr.3 Gold Trail Stakes, before her last-start success.
