Adventador excels on home turf

3 minute read

Lightly raced six-year-old Adventador once again displayed his prowess in a fresh state when he led all the way to claim victory on his home track at Hastings on Saturday.

The Guy Lowry and Grant Cullen trained speedster, who hadn’t been sighted since finished a gallant sixth in the Gr. 1 Telegraph at Trentham in January, displayed his customary speed from the barrier to head straight to the front as jockey Hayden Tinsley dictated the race to his five rivals.

Adventador travelled strongly throughout the contest and despite being hotly challenged by race favourite Ruud Awakening in the closing stages he fought strongly to the line to score by a long neck in a sharp 1.08.93 for the 1200 metre journey.

It was the gelding’s sixth victory in a career to date that has been limited to just 17 starts due to a variety of problems.

“He’s a really gutsy customer as he has had quite a few issues that have limited how many starts he has had,” reported Lowry.

“He broke a cannon bone has a two-year-old and had a plate inserted and then had to have a wind operation when he was three. He also has ongoing problems with his feet but when he is right he is a very talented sprinter.

“He goes best when we keep him a little fresh so the break he had after the Telegraph was just what he needed and we were expecting a good run on Saturday.”

Lowry is now keen to tackle stakes company again with the son of Fast ‘N’ Famous in the Listed City Of Napier Sprint (1200m) on Hawkes Bay Gold Cup Day at Hastings on the 18th of April.

“He has a great record on his home track where he has won three times now so this race will suit him perfectly,” he said.

“We might give him one more start after that or turn him out for a decent break over the winter.

“Because of the wind problems he doesn’t really get past 1200 metres so we will look to races like the Levin Stakes that he won last year and possibly another tilt at the Telegraph if he comes up as well as he did this time.”
