Gallop boosts Myers’ confidence

A recent test drive aboard Nashville has given Rosie Myers further reason to fancy their chances at Riccarton on Wednesday.

She will be reunited with the Adrian and Harry Bull-trained Darci Brahma gelding in the Gr.2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile.

“I galloped him the other morning and he was pretty cruisy,” Myers said. “He’s always been a nice track worker and he felt good so it’s up to Nashville now.”

A two-time Group One winner, the eight-year-old was successful in the Coupland’s Mile in 2012 for Myers’ sister Kelly McCulloch and he also finished runner-up in 2014 under Jonathan Riddell.

Myers has enjoyed success on Nashville, winning the Gr.3 Trentham Stakes on the gelding earlier this year and her only other ride resulted in a runner-up finish in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic in 2013.

“We all know what he can do and he looks well-placed with only 54kg,” Myers said.

She has a solid book of supporting rides with her engagements including last-start placegetters Travimyfriend (Perfect Packaging Premier), Tarihira (Bidvest NZ Premier), and Shadow King (NZB Ready to Run Sale Premier 3YO).

Reilly Lincoln looks another solid chance for her in the Listed Lindauer Stewards’ Stakes Handicap following a fifth in the Listed Pegasus Stakes on Saturday.

Myers is also looking forward to partnering the promising Sweepstake in the Gr.1 gavelhouse.com NZ 1000 Guineas on Saturday.

She rode the Mike Breslin-trained filly into fourth place in the Listed Barneswood Farm Stakes at Ashburton behind La Diosa and she has since partnered Sweepstake in an open trial at Motukarara.

“She won well and it’s a pretty even field on Saturday apart from the Ashburton winner, who is pretty smart,” Myers said.
