Awapuni Hurdles winner (2900m)Iffitel will make her next appearance in this month's Wellington Hurdles (3400m) at Trentham

Matamata trainer Glynn Brick plots a path toward the Schweppes Great Northern Hurdles (4150m) at Te Rapa in September.

It's been a remarkable rise to prominence for six-year-old Iffraaj mare Iffitel, who only made her jumps debut last month, scoring by 8 1/2 lengths in a maiden hurdle at Te Rapa, prompting Brick to tackle the Awapuni Hurdle.

Brick said he ensured Iffitel was hard fit for her hurdle debut by setting an arduous trackwork regime and the mare had thrived with the extra training.

"She was a bit tired after the trip to Awapuni so I gave her a week off and we'll look towards the Wellington Hurdles."

"I'd really dished it up to her before Te Rapa and she just jogged between Te Rapa and Awapuni and had one schooling session.

"She's freshened up nicely and she's working enormous this week. Safely through the Wellington Hurdles, she'll head to the Pakuranga Hunt meeting and the Northern."

A winner of six of her 41 starts, Iffitel won up to Rating 85 company on the flat, but her Awapuni Hurdles win has stamped her as one of the country's most promising young jumpers.

"I know she pulled a bit early, but once she settles, she settles for the entire trip. We're of the opinion that the further she goes, the better it will be for her," Brick said.

"We've got big aims for her, but we're really just taking it one step at a time."
