NZ Briefs for 14th November 2018

3 minute read

More Wonder started as a dominant $1.60 favourite for the NZB Ready to Run Sale Premier (1400m) at Riccarton on Wednesday and won accordingly.

The Team Rogerson-trained runner was backing up from Saturday’s luckless fifth-placing in the Gr.1 Al Basti Equiworld 2000 Guineas (1600m) on the same track.

The Mossman gelding jumped away well to sit in the trail before distancing his rivals in the home straight to win by three lengths. The three-year-old has impressed his connections and his co-trainer Graeme Rogerson said he is for sale.

“He’s on the market, his price is $600,000, he’d be a great Hong Kong or Australian horse,” he said.

“I think he’s been unlucky in his last three runs. I said that to Jonathan Parkes (jockey), he doesn’t do any more than he has to. I think he is a pretty handy horse.”

Meanwhile, Rogerson’s other runner in the race, Beam Of Light, is not a certain starter in Saturday’s Gr.1 Gavelhouse.co.nz New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) after she faded to finish eighth.

“I think she probably wants a wet track. She didn’t run it out and I’ll be having a close look at her (before making a decision on whether she runs in the 1000 Guineas).”
