Cups targets for Andoyas

Former Hong Kong galloper Andoyas is being set on a cups path in the coming months after his victory in the Dunstan Feeds Stayers Championship Qualifier 2200 at Ellerslie on Saturday.

“It was a very pleasing win for Andrew, myself and the team,” said Lance O’Sullivan, who trains in partnership with Andrew Scott.

“It is always good to get the horses back from Hong Kong and for them to do well.”

Andoyas will return to Ellerslie on New Year’s Day for his first tilt at stakes company in New Zealand.

“He will run at Ellerslie in the City of Auckland Cup (Gr.3, 2400m), Andrew and I went through the program this morning and decided that is where we will head with him,” O’Sullivan said.

“We feel he will measure up to them, so we will give him a crack and see how we go.

“If he performs well in the City of Auckland Cup then hopefully we will head on to the Auckland Cup (Gr.1, 3200m) a little bit later on in the season.

“I think the further he goes, the better he will go.”

Railway next for Princess

Princess Kereru will be set to tackle elite company in her next start after winning over 1200m at Ellerslie on Saturday.

It was the second win for the five-year-old mare this campaign and her connections were expecting a solid showing on the weekend from their charge.

“She has been very unlucky all the way through,” said Ken Kelso, who trains in partnership with his wife Bev and Mark Donoghue.

“She’s been really flying this year and her track work was good leading up to it, so we expected her to go well.”

The daughter of Pins will now be set to return to Ellerslie on New Year’s Day where she will line-up in the Gr.1 Sistema Railway (1200m).

“She has got exemption to get in (to the Railway), so she’s safely in the field now. That will be her next start, she’ll go to the Railway,” Kelso said.

“She loves Ellerslie too, that’s a big plus. Her form at Ellerslie is very good, so that’s an attraction to go to the Railway and we might as well roll the dice and have a crack.”
