Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 14th and 15th of June 2019

3 minute read

It was a relatively quiet weekend in Singapore with the Stephen Gray trained Easy Does It a horse to follow out of Saturday's meeting.

Returning from a 546 day break last month, Easy Does It finished fourth, before finishing second behind the progressive Beau Geste.

Stepping up to 1400m in the fifth event on Saturday, Easy Does It proved too good, when saluting narrowly under Ben Thompson.

Sent out the $2.40 favourite, Easy Does It began well before easing back to settle fifth, one off the fence.

Travelling well into the straight, Easy Does It pulled to the centre, allowed to work through his gears by Thompson.

Let rip inside the 400m, Easy Does It strode up to lead and kicked a length clear, before the James Peters trained Overcoming loomed up strongly on the outside.

In a good battle to the line, Easy Does It did too well, scoring narrowly.

At his first attempt beyond 1200m, he returned a new career peak and remains open to further improvement moving forward.

It's never easy returning from such a lengthy break and you would expect that he will be even better next preparation.

Now rated 73 by Timeform, he is trending the right way and very interested to see where he lands at his next start.

The James Peters' trained Grand Koonta was sent out the pronounced favourite ($1.60) in the ninth event, but was simply no match late for the Michael Clements trained Safeer.

Ridden by Smoking Joe, Safeer followed up on his solid run two back, when really launching late.

His first win since September last year, Safeer is certainly a talent when right, indicated by his closing splits on Saturday.

Admittedly aided by a 15/10 ride, however the form looks very good on paper and with even luck, he can go back to back at his next outing.

Wouldn't be jumping of Gran Koonta either, his performance also held merit and they are two horses worth keeping safe.
