Group Three assignment for Aloisia

Anthony Freedman will be hoping for a better result with new stable acquisition Aloisia when she lines-up in the Gr.2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The New Zealand-bred mare joined Freedman's Mornington barn after she was purchased for A$1.2 million to Hilldene Farm and Peter Ford Thoroughbreds in May.

She finished third behind former stablemate Humidor in a 950m trial at Cranbourne last month before her unplaced run in the Gr.3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 31.

While the result was disappointing for the stable, Racing Manager Brad Taylor said they were happy enough with the way she finished off the race.

"Her run was probably better than it looked," he said. "Looking at the sectionals of the race, she ran the third fastest last 400 and 200m of the race.

"She just got a little further back than we would have liked that day, but she drew wide, it was not fault of Linda's (Meech, jockey).

"She hit the line strongly and she will be suited by the step up to 1400m."

"She seems a bit sharper with the blinkers on. She trialled well leading into that resuming run. She should run well."

Beyond The Fort close to resuming

While Waverley trainer Bill Thurlow is being kept busy campaigning Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) aspirant Glory Days in Victoria, another quality mare is set to kick-off her spring campaign.

Beyond The Fort has won three off her four career starts-to-date, including the Listed Warstep Stakes (2000m) and was runner-up in the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m).

She was unplaced in a 1000m trial at Foxton earlier this month and she is set to return to the Horowhenua track next week for one final hit-out before a raceday return.

"She will trial again at Foxton next Tuesday and then she may kick-off at Hawera on the 12th (of October)," Thurlow said. "I am just trying to find the right race for her.

"I am really happy with her. I thought her trial was very good. We asked nothing of her and she went around all under her own steam and she has come through it very well.

"She might be asked a little bit more in her next trial and then it will be race time."
