Big Night At Taipa For Stanley Chin

3 minute read

Macau trainer Stanley Chin enjoyed one of his best nights ever at Taipa leading in a winning treble and providing a quinella on the November 9 sand program.

A former champion apprentice in Hong Kong who has ridden with success around the world, Chin is into his fourth year as a trainer.

On Friday he saddled up the most runners of any stable for the night with 10 starters and only finishing out of the money in one race.

The promising Irish bred three year old Éclair Supreme was the first of Chin’s winners when he led throughout with the blinkers on first time to win the Class 6 over 1050 metres under stable apprentice Eric Cheung.

Éclair Supreme is by the former Godolphin galloper Dandy Man and is the first of the progeny to race in Macau.

Friday night’s win was only a lowly class 6 but the gelding looks destined for better things.

Although not an overly big horse he is well put together with a nice turn of foot and has indicated in trackwork and trials that he should be able to handle both the turf and the all-weather surface.

Stanley Chin came close to pulling off the quinella in the race with his other runner My Golden Boy (Fausto Henrique) only beaten a half length for second.

Striking Achiever under urgings of Fausto Henrique showed plenty of grit to fight back and win the next race the Class 2 over 1050 metres from stablemate The Pirate King (Luis Corrales) to give Stanley Chin a $281.00 race quinella.

A six year old son of Lonhro, Striking Achiever has now won four races in Macau all over the 1050 metres on the sand, and clocked 1.01.8 for Friday night’s win equal to his personal best.

The Pirate King was game in defeat after stepping away a touch slow and then having to work hard in the run to share the lead with Striking Achiever in the run to the turn. Second favorite Mr. Singh ran on fairly for a distant third under Wayne Smith.

Stanley Chin rounded his day out when the 58/1 outsider God Get People under Filipino jockey Jonie Pescuiso showed plenty of tenacity off a wide run to blow his more fancied rivals away in the Class 2 & 3 over 1510 metres.

Whilst his recent form has been respectable, God Get People has essentially been a only a decent class 4 galloper for most of his career and many thought that Friday’s race was a bit on the rich side for the six year old.

Chin has a big team in work and some nice new horses and is seeking his first ever Macau training title.

He sits on six winners in fourth spot behind last year’s champion Tony Fung on 10 wins.

The win on God Get People was a welcome change of luck for Jonie Pescuiso who has had only seven rides total for the new season.

Able to ride at the minimum of 116 pounds Pescuiso will be hoping to capitalize on Fridays win and chase more opportunity.

Four times champion Macau jockey Luis Corrales continued his wonderful association with Victory Megastar in taking out Friday nights main event the Class 1 & 2 over 1350 metres.

Prepared nowadays by Tony Fung, Victory Megastar made it win number five in Macau all over the 1350 metres and all with Luis Corrales in the saddle.

The six year old son of Medicean came with his customary late surge to win easily by two and a half lengths from The Whirlwind (Ruan Maia), with Tony Fung’s other runner Kelowna Star (Fausto Henrique) running in third a neck away.

Prior to arriving in Macau Victory Megastar had won a 1400 metre maiden at Kempton from only five runs in the UK.

The gelding’s Macau record now reads 18 starts for five wins, six placings and over $1.6 million HKD in prize money.
