Ridden by Oscar Chavez, River Bobo wasn’t well served at the getaway after beginning awkwardly and then suffering minor interference and found himself at the tail of the field.

Chavez gradually let the 7YO work into the race up to third spot albeit eight lengths off the tearaway Fasuba.

Still giving away five lengths at the 200m, River Bobo literally jumped out of the ground late to win on the line by three quarters of a length with China Paradise third.

A son of Elusive City, River Bobo was at one time Macau’s superior sand galloper winning his first four races in the enclave on the all-weather surface to take his arrival rating mark of 45 to a career high of 123 points.

Now the gelding battles minor throat problems but was always going to be competitive on Saturday off a rating of 102.

Prepared by former champion trainer Sio Cheong, River Bobo was a $48,000 purchase at the 2013 Karaka Yearling Sales by owner King Ho. As well as his 13 wins the gelding has placed on 10 occasions and picked up over $HK4 million prize money.

The win gave visiting jockey Oscar Chavez his third for the weekend and 10 winners for the new season, taking him to fourth spot on the rider’s standings.

Saturday also had the MJC playing host to a large contingent of racing officials from the Korea Racing Authority and the Jockey Club Of Turkey with the two features races named in their honor.

The Korea Racing Authority Goodwill Trophy over 1050m was the first feature and was taken out by the in form Military Star ridden by Peter Ho, who gunned race favorite Gunstigmaster to win by three quarters of a length.

Prepared by Tony Fung Military Star has been in superb form. Saturday’s victory made it three in a row and gave the son of Dragon Pulse his first Cup win.

The Jockey Club of Turkey Goodwill Cup over 1050 meters was won by the Danny Wong trained Danny Choice who scored under Luis Corrales.

Sporting the blinkers for the first time Danny Choice, a four year old son of multiple Group winner Denman from the Racer’s Edge mare Edgeton, was having just his fourth race start.

The gelding has been in training since early this year but could not get to the races due to his bad barrier manners in refusing to be loaded. Perseverance finally paid off with four year old mending his ways and he looks to have a future in the medium class range.

The victory on Danny Choice also gave Luis Corrales a treble for the two days racing and edged him to within three wins of premiership leader Ruan Maia who is on 19 winners.
