Starharmony stays undefeated as he scrapes home

3 minute read

Louis-Philippe Beuzelin made hay while the sun shines with a gutsy all-the-way win on Starharmony in the $30,000 Class 5 Division 1 race over 1400m on Saturday.

The French jockey was rubbed out for one day and fined $4,000 for careless riding aboard pick-up ride Aftermath last week, but deferred the suspension to next week.

Beuzelin will be passing up the Group 3 Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint (1200m) meeting next Sunday week, but he had another three-year-old uppermost on his mind this Saturday. Having teamed up with Starharmony at his debut win in an Open Maiden race over 1200m on May 9, the Bajan-raised hoop was obviously keen to keep the winning run intact.

Taking full advantage of barrier No 1, the Real Impact three-year-old broke smartly and dictated terms.

The two-from-two looked a moral when he kicked clear at the 300m, but Smoke And Mirrors  (Danny Beasley), who had been a little caught in traffic, was motoring home after he finally saw daylight at the 200m.

The 3.5kgs gap between Jason Ong's galloper and Starharmony  showed through the way the margin was decimated at the rate of knots, but Clements' young customer, despite being still raw and inexperienced, fell in by a short head.

Favourite Triple Bowl (Krisna Thangamani) could only finish fifth, three-quarter length off fourth-placed Street Party (Wong Chin Chuen). The winning time was 1min 23.91secs for the 1400m on the Long Course.

"Louis paced him very well. The horse is still pretty green, he held his head up high and was looking around in the straight," said Clements.

"Louis had to work really hard to keep him going. On his breeding, he shows us he is a miler and he showed us the same in his training.

"We'll just have to find the right races to get him up to the mile. He's already won over 1200m and 1400m, which steers him well for his future towards 1600m.

"At some stage, we will fit him with blinkers. He's still a big baby, he was playing around in the paddock.

"But he's still in the game to win, he's got long strides and he gets on with it at the business end. With maturity, he'll become even better."

Starharmony has banked in around $27,000 in stakes money following that second win in a row for the PSM Racing Stable.
