The Singapore champion sprinter has done everything asked of him from trainer Stephen Gray since arriving in the former British colony last Saturday ahead of the HK$20 million Group 1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) on Sunday.

Carrying a towel round the rump, the Casino Prince six-year-old took in the cool and bracing air as he went around for one lap of walk and trot under work partner, Gray’s apprentice jockey Amirul Ismadi (pictured above, photo by Alex Evers). Sydney champion jockey Hugh Bowman takes over on Sunday.

“He had a nice walk and trot early this morning,” said Gray.

“It was a bit chilly, but he’s ready to go.”

Amirul, his winning partner at his sensational last-start win in a Kranji Stakes A race over 1200m on November 20, could not fault the eight-time winner’s condition either.

“During the first two days, he was a bit hot, and took some time to settle in, but he’s been more focused after that,” said the Ipoh-born rider.

“I would say his condition is more or less as he was when he last won, maybe slightly better. He’s here only one week, he can do as much as he can.

“Everything has been on his side, even the barrier draw (three). Hopefully, the weather also stays on his side – a bit of rain would be good even if it’s drizzled only since we’ve been here.

“We’ve done our job. Now, it’s all in the hands of Hugh Bowman.”
