My Miracle blows rivals away at maiden win

3 minute read

The vastly-improved My Miracle translated his recent encouraging runs into a dominant first win in the $20,000 Countofmontecristo 2017 Stakes Open Maiden race over 1100m on Friday.

After slipping under the radar at his first three starts, the three-year-old colt by Thewayyouare gave the first inkling of some ability at his fourth start when he beat all but Success Come True in a Class 5 race over 1200m on March 8.

One fortnight later, he switched register by going for more negative tactics, charging home late for another placing, a third place to Flaunt in an Open Maiden race over 1000m.

Such linear progress must have prompted trainer Alwin Tan to again race him two weeks apart, and he was right on the money this time.

After being one of the best away, My Miracle, who was backed off the map at $7, was quite happy to take a sit when Leo (Ben Thompson) whipped around the field to assume control of the race.

John Powell was well inspired in allowing My Miracle to take a drop because once he tested him upon straightening, the response was forthwith.

Bounding away from the pack, My Miracle was by the 200m off and gone enroute to an authoritative 5 ¾-length win from the late-closing Stageshow (Wong Chin Chuen) with JK Flash (Saifudin Ismail) third another half-length away.

The winning time was 1 min 5.54secs for the 1100m on the Polytrack.

“He was running in a weaker field tonight. He showed at his last two runs he was more mature with more racing,” said Tan.

“John Powell rode him very well. That was a race that I thought he would handle very well.

“He told me the horse can improve and over more ground as well.”

Powell was certainly pleased that the extra mile to waste down to the 55.5kgs had been well worth it.

“He was probably too good for this bunch,” said the Australian heavyweight rider.

“He never felt like weakening. He finished very strongly.

“I wasn’t too worried when the other horse came up down the back. I was quite happy to let him go as he’s come from off the speed before.

“It’s a nice distance for him and I think he can go on to win a few more races now.”

After one second and one third from his first five outings, My Miracle has now opened his win account and taken his total stakes money close to the $20,000 mark for the Lucky One One No 3 Stable.
