The two-time Singapore champion jockey underwent a successful surgery around the groin area on Tuesday, and will need at least two to three weeks of post-operative recovery.

The 41-year-old rider was in fairly good spirits even if he might be missing at least five race meetings at Kranji, including this weekend’s double-barrelled meetings where his name was glaringly missing from the card.

“I wanted to come back earlier but due to the circumstances of the operation, I’m expected to recover fully in two to three weeks’ time,” said Duric, who had another good day at the office on Sunday with a riding double (Aramco and Barbeque) to extend his lead in the premiership to 11 winners (30 versus Noh Senari’s 19 winners).

“Fingers crossed, I’ll be back riding in the first week of May.”

The first two meetings in May feature the next three Group races on the racing calendar, the Group 2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic (1400m) on May 3 and the Group 3 Rocket Man Sprint (1200m) and Group 3 Moonbeam Vase (1600m) on May 5.
