Fitting Finale By Invincibella

Outstanding mare Invincibella completed a pair of firsts and capped a record breaking season for her trainer Chris Waller when she won her first Group One race at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Her gripping first G1 win in the $500,000 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) gave her Sydney-based rider, the former Kiwi Jason Collett, his first G1 success and completed an amazing season of 18 G1 win for Waller, an Australian record.

Invincibella (I Am Invincible x Abscond by Galileo) has developed an incredible Queensland record, having won the past two runnings of the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares and also back to back victories in the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes.

Among those celebrating was leading syndication operator Denise Martin, who purchased Invincibella for $185,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Sledmere Stud.

Invincibella's imposing record now stands at 11 wins from 38 starts and earnings of over $2.46 million.

"It's special in every way," said Martin. "Brett Howard from Randwick Bloodstock found her for me."

"At the time she was quite big and I thought maybe too big but he insisted I buy her and she's been remarkable.

"She's won four G2 races and now a Group One and two million dollar Magic Millions races - an amazing mare."

Martin said Invincibella's owners were "having way too much fun" o consider retiring the mare.

She said Invincibella was likely to stay in training next season and suggested another Magic Millions attempt in January would be on the cards for the rising six-year-old.

Invincibella is the eighth individual G1 winner by super sire I Am Invincible joining Brazen Beau, Viddora, I Am A Star, Voodoo Lad, Media Sensation, Oohood and Hellbent.

Invincibella is a half-sister to the Melbourne stakes winner Secret Blaze from Abscond, an unraced Galileo half-sister to Victoria Derby placegetter Light Up Manhattan.

Abscond's dam Luminata (Zabeel) is a half-sister to the G1 Adelaide Cup winner The Hind (McGinty) and Geelong Cup winner Oregon Star (Oregon).

Abscond's 4YO daughter Temolie was sold last month for $130,000 to Edinburgh Park at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Abscond has an unraced 2YO filly by Sizzling and a weanling colt by Extreme Choice in 2018.

Chris Waller-trained/Star Thoroughbreds-raced mare Invincibella followed her win in the Dane Ripper Stakes (Gr2, 1400m) at this track on June 8 with a narrow but game victory here, her first at the elite level and her 11th win in 38 starts. She settled in sixth place, one off the rails, tracked up nicely rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and fought best to score in a photo finish. Godolphinraced filly Pohutukawa raced just beyond midfield, tracked up behind runners from the 600m, made a wide move on straightening, challenged at the 200m and then battled gamely for (short half head) second. Her stablemate and favourite Savatiano raced outside the leader (Irithea), took the lead coming to the 200m and then fought well for a close-up third. Oregon's Day raced back in tenth place, moved up well on turning for home and kept fighting well for (1.2 lengths) fourth, just in front of Jamaican Rain who held on for (1.3 lengths) fifth after being handy all the way from Eckstein who came from near last at the home turn for (1.5 lengths) sixth at her first start for new trainer Chris Waller.
