Singapore racing best bets, race analysis looking at the full Singapore card Friday, 23rd August 2019 with selections & information on all the contenders.
RACE 1
EVERYBODY HAPPY (1) – Having not quite fulfilled some early promise, this Steven Burridge-trained five-year-old should have the beating of most of these on the pick of his form if producing it here.
OBSTACLES FREE (4) – In good heart currently and can easily run another sound race here off a point higher mark.
TAVITO (10) – Has dropped a further two points after a last start eighth and the positive this time around is that Michael Rodd takes the ride.
GLAMOROUS (2) – Still yet to win in 17 starts to date but would look to be the best of the rest here.
RACE 2
IRON RULER (8) – Was a game effort last start in a solid Restricted Maiden. He was never on the track from a wide barrier and did plenty of work in the run. Kept finding the line despite this. The step-up to 1400m looks ideal with Alysha Collett to ride at the light weight.
SMOKE AND MIRRORS (11) – Top effort on debut coming from back in the field. The rise in distance looks suitable for this galloper and has natural improvement to come here at his second start.
ACHIEVED MORE (4) – Has been back to the trials since running in the Golden Horseshoe. Was given a quiet trial. Benny Woodworth stays aboard this lightly-raced galloper and if the horse runs 1400m, can be in the finish.
PISCA PISCA (2) – Has been costly to follow but is fit and will keep finding the line. Just lacks a great turn of foot.
RACE 3
CRACKING TOTTIE (10) – Worth forgiving last start. Drawn to take up a prominent role from the inside draw and will appreciate the lightweight. Expect bold showing.
SOLO SUN (1) – Class performer of the race. Will appreciate the drop in grade and will have no problem switching surface. Capable of fighting out the finish with even luck.
SUN ACE (8) – Hard to knock on recent efforts. Poorly drawn but is capable of figuring with the right breaks. Lightweight chance.
ANCIENT WARRIOR (7) – Has been struggling to win but will roll forward from a good gate and is capable of giving a sight with the claim from Mohammad Nizar. Knockout hope.
RACE 4
SPIRIT OF BIG BANG (1) – An interesting runner in this Open Maiden judged on his Irish form (placed in all four starts). He has trialled nicely leading up to this and might not have to be a world beater to land this prize.
COMING UP (7) – The same connections as Coming Through who won a similar race last week. This son of Battle Paint has won a trial (like Coming Through) and must be respected in a very winnable race on debut.
GRAND CHOICE (3) – Placed in all five starts to-date and ran with plenty of credit over the course and distance last time to finish second to Ocean Crossing. He might need some of the fancied horse to not quite see it out to get his head in front.
LIBRAN SON (12) – Hasn't shown as much as one or two at the trials but did work home late in the latest of them and has no weight to carry. Quartet filler.
RACE 5
FEROCIOUS (3) – His third in the 2017 Group 3 Juvenile Championship is nothing more than a distant memory nowadays (3 ¾ clear of Be Bee!). On his best he can win this but quite a bit is taken on trust.
KUBERA'S CHIEF (4) – Has won on turf and has a new jockey this time around in the shape of Louis-Phillipe Beuzelin and that is a plus in a weak class 5.
TOP BANANA (10) – This long-standing maiden went well for Alysha Collett last time out and hopefully it's a case of 'more of the same'.
LIM'S MYSTERY (7) – If you were thinking of playing the quartet, this could be the horse for fourth.
RACE 6
BARBEQUE (3) – A winner on local debut. The wheels certainly wobbled in two runs thereafter and was then given a nice break by Mark Walker. The blinkers have been removed and a good fifth in his latest trial should have left him cherry ripe for this. It can prove worthwhile taking a chance on him here.
BACCARAT (8) – The trial sixth in the same heat as the top pick is much better than it looks on paper and even though he is up in grade, he has a light weight and some classy New Zealand form under his belt. Expect a bold showing.
CHARGER (2) – A tough and consistent horse who is in very good form with a win and a good third last time in recent runs and can once again run well with conditions to suit.
SO YOU TOO (1) – Needs to show more on two starts to date but has trialled well and is down into a lower class of race here. Each-way player.
RACE 7
OCEAN CROSSING (6) – Looks very interesting in a race of this nature off a mark of 52 with a light weight. His third to Bluestone last time out reads well and can prove good enough to land this prize for Patrick Moloney.
LEGEND ROCKS (7) – Has been chasing some handy types recently and this looks like a slightly more straightforward task in comparison. Definite chance under these conditions.
SUN FORMATION (3) – Beat a solid enough maiden last time out over the course and distance and a repeat of that performance should put him right there.
YULONG SHENG LONG (10) – Consistent off this mark in his last three runs. Same again here.
RACE 8
SUPER POSH (1) – A battling winner last time out and now up five points for that success, he has more to do with an extra 2.5kgs to carry but does have the assistance of champion jockey Vlad Duric and should go very close.
WATCH OUT BOSS (8) – The horse formerly known as Kuda Bagus. He is yet to win one but is in good form and although he is back a couple of furlongs in trip, he looks very interesting here with a very light weight and the stable is in good form.
MACH (11) – Would need to leave some recent below-par efforts behind him and on the pick of his form, he can make the frame.
LIM'S BLAST (3) – Third to the selection three runs back and is that bit better off at the weights with him now. One to include.
