Hatano hopes Quadcopter win can lift owner's spirits

Assistant-trainer Ryo Hatano hopes Japanese owner Kaz Hosaka will take some comfort in the easy win of his horse Quadcopter on Friday night.

In spite of all the treatment administered, Hosaka's stable star Jupiter Gold has not returned to racing since succumbing to a tendon injury that ruled him out of the Kranji Mile back in May.

While a win from a Class 4 galloper might not fully make up for the loss of opportunities suffered by Hosaka's 2018 Emirates Singapore Derby winner – besides the Kranji Mile, his targets this year would have been the Singapore Triple Crown series – Hatano said every little win, no matter how low the class of race is, can help ease the sorrow.

"I'm happy Quadcopter won for Mr Hosaka-san. Unfortunately, Jupiter Gold has still not returned from his tendon injury, but I hope that this win tonight will be good news to him," said trainer Hideyuki Takaoka's right-hand man.

"Quadcopter was in good order for tonight's race. I was worried about the outside draw (11) and also about Lim's Passion, but luckily for us, he was scratched.

"I was then more confident our horse could win. He still needed a bit of luck to get over from his wide draw.

"I told Marc to try and get cover, but he was still travelling nicely outside the leader (Trigamy). Once Marc asked him to lengthen up, he won easily.

"I think he'll get up to the mile no problem."

Lerner said he was mindful not to let the Zoustar four-year-old roll to the front too soon upon cornering, but he had such a lapful under him that he just threw caution to the wind.

"The tactics were not to pass the leaders too early as he tends to stop, but he was going so well that I let him go at the top of the straight," said the French rider.

"This horse has been an honest sort and he seems to be improving all the time."

Quadcopter ($16) could have scored by a bigger margin, but once he was assured of the win, Lerner was kind to him inside the concluding stages.

Sun General (Zyrul Nor Azman) ran on late for second place, shaving off the margin to one length. Super Tycoon (Vlad Duric) ran third another length away.

The winning time was 1min 22.45secs for the 1400m on the Long Course.

Quadcopter has now taken his handy record to three wins and four placings from 12 starts for prizemoney around the $160,000 mark for the Jupiter Gold Stable.
