No holding back as Letitgo lets rip

3 minute read

It may have been the penultimate race meeting of season 2019 with the Polytrack in full use but trainer Saimee Jumaat was showing no signs of slowing down.

Letitgo  returned to the winner's circle second-up after a 10-month layoff taking out the feature race of the evening, the Class 3 contest over 1600m worth $70,000.

The six-year-old son of Multiplex recorded his fourth win from 16 starts taking his career earnings to the tune of $180,000.

The former champion rider-turned-trainer acquired Letitgo after his last victory in early January this year. But with the setback of having a chipped fetlock, he was forced to spend the majority of the year on the sidelines.

Jumping cleanly from barrier No 3, he showed sufficient early speed to play a prominent role entering the first corner sitting outside temporary leader Caribbean Lady.

Despite a midrace move from eventual runner-up Karisto (John Powell), Letitgo enjoyed a perfect run throughout from jockey Noh Senari.

When the contest started to heat up at the 600m mark, it became evident that Letitgo was travelling far better than his rivals. Assuming control of the race at the top of the straight, he quickly beat off the challenge from Karisto and eventual favourite Magic Wand (Vlad Duric) who failed to be a serious threat sitting off the pace throughout.

With a considerable buffer inside the concluding stages, his condition second-up was put beyond any doubt when he pulled clear of his rivals. The winning time was notched up in 1min 38.49secs for the 1600m on the Polytrack surface, recording a 1 ¾-length victory.

Fancied commodities Magic Wand and Karisto could not match eventual winner Letitgo despite the pair taking up a severe market percentage with the winner returning $55.

Saimee and Noh were no strangers to success on Friday evening, as they also went on to record a victory with Taro San in the following race taking the stable's season tally to 32 winners.

"He needed the last run badly as he hasn't raced since the surgery in January. He ran well last start without doing too much, and he improved after the run," said Saimee.

"I got him after his last run in January and he chipped his fetlock. So we had to remove it and nurse him back to health.

"It did him a world of good, and he's really thriving, so hopefully he's onwards and upwards from now on."

"We hope to keep him as sound as possible. So if he pulls up good tomorrow, I'll be really happy."

After a rollercoaster year, Noh was certainly happy to finish on a high.

"I didn't expect him to improve so much tonight, but the stable did well to get his form back," he said.

"With the good barrier, and back on the Poly, I didn't have any instruction prior to the race. It was simple - just go to the front, get him to relax so as to give him the best chance.

"I had 16 winners last year, and to double up this year as a professional jockey, it was good."

The final race meeting for the 2019 season is on Sunday, December 8 with the Group 3 Colonial Chief Stakes (1600m) being the feature event.
