Burridge launches duo ahead of 4YO Challenge

3 minute read

Trainer Steven Burridge is keen to see how his four-year-old duo of Lim’s Craft and Adipson fare in this Saturday’s $70,000 Class 3 race over 1200m.

The Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge is as expected their main target this year, beginning with the Group 3 Silver Bowl (1400m) on February 29.

Both gallopers are at their first 2020 assignment. Lim's Craft  was one of Burridge's up-and-comers last year, reeling off four wins, and turning in an eye-catching fifth in the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy (1400m) at his last start in November while Adipson has also come through in winning fashion at his last starts, claiming three of his last four starts and will be up in grade.

Burridge has stuck with Benny Woodworth on Lim's Craft, a horse he partnered at three of his four wins, while his champion apprentice jockey Simon Kok Wei Hoong reunites with Adipson whom he steered to his maiden win at Kranji in July.

"After both horses came to the end of their campaigns, I gave them a nice break and both will be first-up this Sunday," said the Australian handler.

"Both will be aimed at the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge. We'll take one race at a time, though.

"Lim's Craft is by Smart Missile and whether he can go through all three Legs, we'll see how he gets on, it's the same thing for Adipson.

"Lim's Craft's trial (on January 16) was quite strong and he gives me every indication he has improved from his last run. It was a pretty good run in the Barker.

"He's no superstar, but he has good ability and we had to start him off somewhere. He will have to carry a big weight, though.

"Adipson goes well fresh, he ran second first-up, I put him away and he again ran second again first-up.

"He will be up in grade, but I think he will appreciate the 1200m first-up and we'll then have a better idea where he stands from a 4YO series angle."

Adipson is a son of 2010 Cox Plate winner So You Think and is raced by a syndicate run by Burridge's wife Julie, the J Racing Bloodstock No 2 Stable. He won the last of his three wins at Kranji at his last outing in a Class 4 race over 1600m in October, and will carry only 51.5kgs after deducting Kok's two-kilo claim.

On 79 points, Lim's Craft is the highest-rated runner in the field, hence his top impost of 59kgs.
