Glasgow ranges up to racing return

Trainer Steven Burridge is hoping Glasgow can return to the peak of his powers at his new prep this season.

The son of Not A Single Doubt was the Australian's leading hope for a first Singapore Derby accolade last year, but after some creditable performances in the first two Legs of the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge, he was never a factor in the Derby.

Kept at the rear by jockey Marc Lerner, Glasgow could not quicken in the rain-affected track while Sun Marshal revelled in it to go and land the prize for Lee Freedman.

Glasgow  has not been quite his best self in two subsequent starts before Burridge eventually decided to tip him out.

While Glasgow's first-up record after a short let-up is pretty good, Burridge is not expecting sparks to fly in Friday night's $70,000 Class 3 race over 1400m.

"It's his first run after a long time (since a sixth place to Black Jade in a Class 2 race over the mile in September). We had to start him off somewhere," said Burridge.

"I'm happy with his condition going into Friday's race, but I think he'll probably improve from that run. We'll see how he goes and then plan his next races accordingly."

For that first-up assignment, Burridge has booked Glasgow's winningest partner in three wins at Kranji – Noh Senari who steered Glasgow home at his first two wins, both in spectacular come-from-behind fashion.

While Friday's race was always meant to be Glasgow's comeback race in 2020, he will have a last-minute stablemate getting kitted out for the same race, Adipson.

The So You Think four-year-old was originally charted on a Silver Bowl route, but after he ran out of the placings at his last start in a Class 3 race over 1200m on February 1, the ambitions were lowered a notch or two.

The Group 3 Silver Bowl (1400m) is the first Leg of the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge and is due on February 29. The Group 2 Stewards' Cup (1600m) is the second Leg on March 20 and the third Leg is the Group 1 Singapore Derby (1800m) on April 18.

"We elected not to run Adipson in the Silver Bowl," said Burridge of his three-time winner, two of them coming over the mile.

"A, he may not have got a run, and B, the 1400m is a bit short for him. But a Class 3 race over 1400m should be okay for him.

"After that, maybe he will be going to the better races ie the Stewards' Cup, which is over the mile, hoping he will measure up."

It's Burridge's gun apprentice jockey Simon Kok Wei Hoong who will be reunited with the horse syndicated to a group run by Burridge's wife Julie, the J Racing Bloodstock No 2 Stable. Kok partnered Adipson at his first four starts for one win – in a Restricted Maiden race over 1400m on July 26.
