Longshot Super Dynasty bounced back to winning ways with a show of great resilience in staving off the fast-finishing Preditor by the barest of margins on Saturday.
Friendless in the market at $208, Lee Freedman's grey had slipped under the radar, even if his recent runs had not been all that bad, most pointedly his smack-up second to Vittoria Perfetta in a Class 3 race over the mile three weeks ago.
But with the last of his five previous wins occurring almost one year ago to the day (November 1, 2019) in Class 3 company, not many had warmed up to the thought he could regain his spark in Saturday's $85,000 Fatkid 2011 Stakes Class 2 race over 1400m.
The six-year-old son of Fastnet Rock probably saw his odds lengthen up further when he was seen coursing out four wide without cover coming into the final approach.
As pacemaker Passport To Rome (Ruan Maia) gave signals of distress halfway up the straight, a gaggle of swoopers descended, but it was Super Dynasty, clearly showing no ill-effects from his torrid trip, who drew first blood.
As the grey led the charge of the light brigade and was being hailed the winner, old stager Preditor (Vlad Duric) suddenly unlocked his turn of foot of old to make it interesting with a late lunge.
The judge had to resort to the photo print to split the pair with Super Dynasty just hanging on by a nose. Per Inpower (John Sundradas) also ran a pearler but had to settle for third another half-length away. The winning time was 1min 23.54secs for the 1400m on the Long Course on a yielding track.
Super Dynasty has now taken his record to six wins and three seconds from 32 starts for prizemoney hitting around the $275,000 mark for the Number One Stable.
