SOUTH AFRICA: Durbanvillle Cup In Writing

3 minute read

The R125 000 Listed Durbanville Cup (3200m) is the main race on the card at Kenilworth on Wednesday.

Top weight belongs to Dean Kannemeyer's Argentinian gelding In Writing. The son of Editor's Note had good form last season and appeared to be back to his best when finishing second in the Listed Settlers Trophy(2400m) at Durbanville behind Sun City.

He was then reported coughing in his last start and trailed in well beaten. If he is healthy and fit, he is certainly the class horse in the field and should be the one they all have to beat.

Front running Hospitality has been ultra consistent. He ran a good second in the Listed Woolavington Handicap (2400m) at Durbanville, when caught close to home by Blake. The shorter finishing straight at Kenilworth should suit him and he is likely to be fighting out the finish.

Two Strikes from the Stephen Page yard could to be the main danger to In Writing. The son of Strike Smartly ran a good fourth in the Woolavington Handicap on his first start of the season. He will have come on from that run and must be considered. The distance though may be a query.

Joey Ramsden saddles the evergreen Omaha Beach and English import Hawk's Eye(GB).

Hawk's Eye is the pick of the two and while he has very good form he has only raced over the distance once where he finished eight lengths off the winner. Hospitality will however turn this into a true staying contest and that may be Hawk's Eye undoing.

Riaan van Reenen's Posh Boy is ultra consistent and seldom finishes unplaced. He is however another runner that is most comfortable over 2400m, but if he can handle the step up in distance, he could be contesting the minor places.

The dark horse is the only filly in the race, Mary Hinge. The Second Empire filly has won her last two starts and bids for a hat trick here. She does step up in distance, as well as in class, and is taking on the boys here. Despite this she could cause an upset.
