Preview of the 2021 Earl Of Sefton Stakes on Day Two of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket.
A couple of sharp and promising performances lit up the opening day of Newmarket's Craven Meeting and have set the stage for the group races that highlight the second day card.
The Nell Gwyn for the fillies looking to find their way into 1000 Guineas calculations features three that are unbeaten and similarly promising. Saffron Beach, Love Is You and Divine Light have all shown talent but without having stamped themselves as good enough to win a typical running of this and the betting seems to draw up their respective chances fairly well.
Sacred has form to better all three via a string of Group Two placings but she is well within striking distance and doesn't look sure to be any better this time around having only gotten worse last season and she turns up here with a whiff of juvenile squib about her.
The other group race on the card is the Earl Of Sefton Stakes where the Gosden stable send out the clear favourite in Global Giant.
His form around Extra Elusive last season is probably good enough to land this and he won comfortably in a low-pressure race at Kempton last time.
Dettori and Gosden is obviously something that catches the eye of the Racing and Sports Pricing Model but he is hard to mark quite as short as he is and instead it is My Oberon who looks the bet worth having.
There is nothing to be lost landing on Haggas and Doyle who link up at 23% and My Oberon has form right on the heels of Global Giant without looking to have had a real chance to show himself off just yet.
He ran a slick time winning a Novice before a smart one nearly put him through the fence and down the hill at Goodwood before bumping into another couple of nice horses before 2020 was out.
He is the freshest horse on the scene here and looks a decent prospect for 2021 at least up to this level and prices around 6/1 - slightly better than random odds - could underate his potential.
