Page Ascot run undecided

3 minute read

Great Page may miss Royal Ascot and wait for the Cherry Hinton if Richard Hannon feels the Albany Stakes comes too soon after her impressive win at Naas on Monday.

An impressive winner on her debut at Windsor she was beaten by stablemate Illuminate at Salisbury but that race came just 13 days later.

Given a break, she bolted up by three lengths in a Listed event and put herself firmly in the Ascot frame, if that is the route connections decide to go down.

"It was a smashing performance and Sean (Levey) reported that Great Page travelled like a dream on that rain-softened ground," Hannon told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk.

"In hindsight, Salisbury came too soon after her impressive debut win at Windsor and she didn't run her race there, though she bumped into a smart one of ours in Illuminate, who was receiving weight, and the trip (five furlongs) was probably too sharp.

"Royal Ascot comes up plenty quick enough and, while we were thinking of the Albany, we'll have to see how she is when she resumes fast work.

"You have to take into account the journey to Ireland etc, so we'll chat with the Middleham Park boys and if we decide to opt out, we could wait for the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting.

"The owners are keen to go back to Ireland for the Moyglare Stud Stakes later in the season."
