Racing lands Winter win

3 minute read

Racing History made a seamless step up from handicap company to Group Three winner in the Unibet Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor.

A full-brother to dual Group One scorer Farhh, Racing History was having just his fourth racecourse outing in the 10-furlong heat after winning a Haydock maiden and a Chester handicap on his two starts this term.

Sent off a 9-2 chance, jockey William Buick was content to track the early pace set by Not So Sleepy before the race really kicked up a notch in the straight.

Battalion was the first to strike for home but when Buick gave the signal, the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Racing History found an extra gear to run out a length winner over the fast-finishing Cannock Chase, who took the runner-up prize by a neck.

Buick said: "He is very exciting. It was a brave choice to come here. They knew what they had and he's been pleasing everyone at home so fair play to Saeed and the whole team - they made the right decision.

"The ground was right and he's a very exciting horse for the future.

"It was a typical Windsor mile-and-a-quarter race but he's got gears and he's still learning so he will only keep progressing. He won his maiden at Haydock well and then went to Chester and learned plenty and he will learn again today.

"We are very hopeful for him. I think the quick improvement he's made, you would have to consider him as a potentially very good horse."

Bin Suroor added: "This one is improving. He could now go for a Group Two in France, the Prix Dollar, we're thinking about that.

"I've always liked him. He is improving and will be better next year. He reminds me of his brother."

The Dermot Weld-trained Fascinating Rock was sent off the 6-5 favourite but he failed to make an impact, eventually finishing fifth.
