Let's Go Takes Command In Churchill Stakes At Lingfield

3 minute read

Let's Go looked another Godolphin star in the making on the all-weather as he took top honours in the coral.co.uk Churchill Stakes at Lingfield.

Maverick Wave set much of the pace in the fast-track qualifier for All-Weather Championship Finals Day on Good Friday tracked by Metropol, before the French challenger swung wide to put down his bid.

But James Doyle had everything covered on the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Let's Go, zipping up the inside to win by three-quarters of a length from the fast-finishing Grendisar.

Doyle said of the 5-4 favourite: "If you miss the break here it can go to pieces, but he actually hit them really well and a decent start gives you options.

"I was able to go forward and there was a decent pace the whole way through, I was probably a touch handy and that's probably why he didn't look as impressive he might have.

"We were looking for a decent pace and that's the way it played out, but like I said I jumped that well I ended up sitting closer to the pace.

"He's in for finals day now, everyone will sit down and have a chat, see if he goes to Dubai and takes to the dirt out there. He's certainly one to look forward to, he's still learning and he's exciting."

The other qualifier the big Easter card was the six-furlongs Unibet Golden Rose Stakes, won readily by the Kevin Ryan-trained Goken in the hands of Graham Lee.

Sent off at 8-1, he really motored down the straight to beat Irish challenger Jamesie by a length and a half.

Lee said: "He was very professional and won it well. He was drawn to attack, we missed it a fraction but there was enough pace that I could slot in the box seat and it worked out well.

"He's very professional and very likeable."
