Mick Channon could make the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot the next stop for impressive maiden winner Short Call.

The daughter of Kodiac made an eyecatching debut when clearing right away from her rivals in a five-furlong novice contest at Goodwood on Friday.

Although plans remain fluid, the West Ilsley handler is considering stepping the Jaber Abdullah-owned filly up to six furlongs for a tilt at the Group Three contest on June 23.

Channon, who has a fine record in the Albany having struck three times since its inception in 2002, said: "Short Call is a nice filly and seems to have come out of that race well. We do think a bit of her.

"She has always shown a bit at home and has done everything right, she has just been a bit slow to come to hand and is not quite there in her coat. There is a lot of improvement in her.

"There were only three runners in the race on Friday and you are never quite sure what you are going to bump into, but we thought she had a chance. She did it very professionally.

"We will see what happens over the next 10 days and we could now possibly go for the Albany, as I don't think the six-furlong trip will be a problem."

Channon is leaning towards giving Neola a rematch with her York conqueror Main Desire at the Royal meeting in the Queen Mary.

He said: "She will go to either the Queen Mary or the Norfolk, but I would have thought it will end up being the Queen Mary.

"If there is a bit of cut in the ground it would help her. She is in great form and I could not be happier with her.

"Neola just has that bit more speed than Short Call and that is why she is likely to go to the Queen Mary."
