Brian Ellison pinpoints Aintree race for Definitly Red

3 minute read

Brian Ellison is eyeing a return to Aintree for Definitly Red followed his third-placed finish in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday.

Making his first appearance since he was pulled up when his saddle slipped in the Grand National in April, Definitly Red boxed on to pick up minor honours in the Grade Two, albeit a long way behind Bristol De Mai and Blaklion.

Ellison reports his charge to have taken his weekend exertions well and hopes he may encounter a sounder surface in the Grade Two Many Clouds Chase on December 9.

"He's come out of the race fine. He just couldn't handle that tacky ground," the Norton-based trainer told Press Association Sport.

"He's such a good-moving horse and the two horses that beat him like that sort of ground. It's as simple as that.

"We're happy with him and we'll probably take him to Aintree in December for the Many Clouds race."
