Dreams Of Dreams delivers for Stoute and Crowley in Wentworth

3 minute read

Dream Of Dreams could tackle the bigger sprint prizes next year after ending his three-year-old season with victory in the Betfred Mobile Wentworth Stakes at Doncaster.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt has had a pretty light campaign but showed a bit of quality to see off seasoned performers in this Listed contest over six furlongs.

Covered up in midfield early on, Dream Of Dreams (5-1) delivered his challenge towards the far side under Jim Crowley.

Quickening up nicely, he got home a length ahead of Perfect Pasture, with Danzeno two lengths away in third.

"We think this is his best distance. Sir Michael tested him over seven, but Ryan (Moore) rode him last time and said he's definitely better over six," said Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail.

"He used to miss the kick a lot. He gave himself plenty to do, but Michael ironed out those problems. He put a rug on him at the gate.

"Saeed bought him out of Kevin Ryan's yard after seeing him at Newmarket as a two-year-old.

"He's had niggly problems but has got over them now.

"He's going to have to step up into Group company but he needs soft ground."

Star Rock (5-1) battled on resolutely to hold Vintage Folly in the other Listed heat on the card, the Betfred TV Stallions Breeding Winners Gillies Fillies' Stakes.

Vintage Folly set sail for home some way out, but PJ McDonald was not flustered on the Hughie Morrison-trained filly as he knew she stays further than this mile and a quarter.

So it proved as Star Rock got on top in the final furlong to win by three-quarters of a length. Melesina was two and a half lengths away in third place.

"The boss was confident enough. With the ground being soft, he wasn't worried about stepping her down in trip," said McDonald.

"I got a little bit further back than I wanted to be, but she travelled so well and when the gaps appeared she picked them up and saw the trip out really well."
