Lucinda Russell is hoping to get One For Arthur back on the track this month at either Warwick or Haydock.

However, the Kinross trainer admits she is facing a race against time to have the 2017 Grand National hero ready for the Classic Chase at Warwick on Saturday week – which he won two years ago before going on to glory at Aintree.

Should that three-mile five-furlong handicap come too soon, then the 10-year-old could head for the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock on January 19.

“He cantered a couple of times on Wednesday. We kept him going over Christmas and new year. We’re getting a little bit tight for the Warwick race now,” Russell told Racing TV.

“I don’t know whether he’ll go there or whether he might now go to Haydock instead. We’re just going to get him back as best we can.”

One For Arthur only got as far as the third fence in the Many Clouds Chase over the Mildmay course at Aintree last month, after being sidelined through injury since his National triumph.
