Wednesday's Ascot card

3 minute read

There are four group races starting with the Queen Mary G2 over 1000m with a field of 27 2yo fillies!

Godolphin's Final Song from Saeed bin Suroor's yard will be ridden by Christophe Soumillon and is on top on 9/2 on the strength of her debut win.  This may not be good enough in such a big field where a bit of race experience could prove invaluable.  Much the same can be said of the American raider KImari who won her debut at Keeneland by a wide margin but there were only five runners in that field. She's on 11/2.  Godolphin-Appleby's Divine Spirit is on 10/1 with Aussie Kerrin McEvoy in the irons.

We are leaning towards Flippa The Strippa trained by Charlie Hills and James McDonald has the ride.  We also like a French raider Brand New Day 40/1 trained by Matthieu Palussière with Antoine Hamelin riding.  With 27 runners the UK bookies will pay first five.

The Queen's Vase G2 is for 3yos over 2800m  and the O'Brien runners Western Australia and Norway are on top of the 13 runner field around 7/2.

Jalmoud for Appleby-Doyle had a recent win in France and is on 5/1.

The Prince of Wales's G1 over 2000m has 8 starters and the O'Brien filly Magical has done nothing wrong of late winning her last three outings.

William Haggas is going to walk the track Wednesday morning before finally deciding if Sea of Class will run.  She's on 5/2 and she is resuming whereas Magical has the benefit of recent racing.  Sir Michael Stoute saddles Crystal Ocean with Dettori booked for the ride and 9/2 available but that may change if Sea Of Class comes out.  This field includes the Japanese raider Deidre, a lovely mare but probably outclassed here – 33/1.

The Duke of Cambridge G2 for f&m down the 1600m straight has 17 runners for another cavalry charge.  It's pretty open with Rawdaa on top for Stoute-Dettori following a second in a G2 at York.  I Can Fly is on 9/2 for O'Brien-Moore although recent form is patchy.

We like Pretty Baby 7/1, Anna Nerium 10/1 and Agrotera 7/1.

The weather is supposed to produce further showers and the track rating is slow.
