Dow happy to pitch Hector Loza into Solario

3 minute read

Dual winner ‘might be a bit special’

Simon Dow is keen to test the Pattern-race potential of hat-trick seeking Hector Loza  in the Betway Solario Stakes at Sandown.

Since meeting with defeat on his debut at Kempton, the son of Kodiac has not looked back – posting victories at Chelmsford and under a penalty at Lingfield last time out.

With Hector Loza's latest success coming over seven furlongs, Epsom trainer Dow believes Sandown will play to the strengths of his rising star on his turf debut over the same trip in Saturday's Group Three.

Dow said: "This race is something we have been thinking about since his last run. He has always had that little bit of something.

"It is easy to say that when they have done well, but he is a horse that we have had in mind might be a bit special."

Dow is respectful of Hector Loza's likely opponents, but optimistic nonetheless.

"There are a couple with big ratings in there, and sometimes fortune favours the brave," he added.

"We might get smashed to pieces. But if he settles he is such a strong finisher -and with the bend and the hill, the track should be perfect for him."
